Manhattan Milk understands the importance of taking meaningful action to address and stand up against the racism and the injustice that is happening in our country. Over the past 10 years, we have prided ourselves on giving back to our community, treating people with kindness and most importantly, fostering inclusivity. We care deeply about our team, our community, and our customers; therefore, we will always work towards creating a positive, reliable and healthy experience for people in New York City, regardless of background, size, shape, color, or ability.
However, as events have unfolded over the last week in our beloved city and the rest of the country, we recognize that these efforts are not enough. It’s not enough to just be ‘not racist’. We must be actively anti-racist. In the words of Elie Wiesel: “We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”
It’s clear that we as a business, as a nation, and as members of one human race, must proactively work towards a long-term solution to these systemic issues.
We are committed to driving change starting by educating ourselves, reading, ensuring Manhattan Milk is an inclusive place for people of color to work and listening to the black members of our broader community. While it’s just a start with a long way to go, we are certain that together we can make a difference. We stand with the Black Lives Matter movement and with each of you in the fight against racism, injustice and inequality.
